Theresa Bouchard, beloved wife of Deacon Don Bouchard, D.O., loving stepmother to Nicole Russo and Spencer Bouchard, and caring grandmother, was called to her heavenly home on Sunday, October 24, 2021. Theresa was devoted to her family and her faith. Her legacy spans from helping raise Nicole and Spencer, her service to her church community, organizing and participating in charitable and community events, providing loving and compassionate care to her patients and their families as a nurse, and her role as a co-founder and healthcare provider at Holy Family Healthcare. Theresa embraced and respected her role as a Deacon’s wife and, through her own faith, followed her husband in whatever direction his ministry called him. Theresa also took her role as a nurse very seriously and made sure to care for each person entrusted into her care with the love, compassion, and patience she would want given to her own family.

Born on June 4, 1962 to William and Barbara Jean (York) Wilson in Flushing Michigan, Theresa Ann had a loving, generous, and adventurous spirit from the start! As a child, she enjoyed spending time on the water with her parents and siblings. Her teenage years were spent participating in the marching band/color guard and other school clubs. After graduating from Durand Area High School, Theresa set her sights on education and enrolled at Michigan State University. After a time, Theresa decided to leave Michigan State to pursue nursing at Hurley School of Nursing in Flint, Michigan. Following graduation from nursing school, Theresa developed a fondness for travel as she took assignments all over the country as a traveling nurse.

While working as a charge nurse at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan, Theresa met Don Bouchard, a young man who would forever change her life. A resident at Sparrow Hospital, Don witnessed how she lovingly cared for her patients and he was drawn to Theresa’s inner beauty. In 1996, after dating for six years, Theresa and Don were happily united as husband and wife. At their wedding, Don’s daughter, Nicole, served as maid of honor, adding even more meaning to their special day. Following their wedding, Don and Theresa settled into married life. Theresa was a caring and attentive mother and she lovingly raised Nicole and Spencer as her own. Affectionately referred to as “T”, Theresa gave the children her undivided attention, limitless patience and unwavering love.

When she wasn’t spending time with her own family, Theresa was volunteering to help local children get to and from school and making sure they had all the tools and support they needed to excel in their studies and achieve their goals. Theresa was always there to celebrate with you in times of triumph and to wipe your tears in time of sorrow.

Theresa shared her fondness of travel with Don, Nicole, and Spencer, during their many family vacations and sailing adventures. A person who could see outside her own world, she and Don loved to explore the world with food as well. They would pick a place and cook foods from that particular area. She was a good cook and she and Don loved to entertain and try new things.

While Theresa enjoyed many hobbies and interests in life, the focal point of her love, care, and attention, was her family. She truly enjoyed being engaged in the Spencer and Nicole’s interests. From cheering on Spencer at sporting events and helping Nicole take care of the farm animals, Theresa was there for each of them and found joy in watching them each find something they were passionate about. When it came to her extended family, she always cherished the fun had and memories made while hosting the annual New Year’s Eve party for her siblings and their children. Theresa’s passion for her family was magnified when she became a grandmother. She treasured the times she spent with her grandson, Brendan (son of Nicole and Ricky) and watching his personality grow. The joy Theresa found in caring for and spending time with children extended far beyond her stepchildren and grandson and was shared with all the children she encountered in her practice as a nurse, her service to her church, and her service to the community. She truly loved being with the children and giving to the church and the community

Devoted to the Catholic Faith, both Theresa and Don lived their faith through their works. They opened Holy Family Health Care in Hartford, Michigan to serve the families of that area. Though managing the clinic was out of her comfort zone and a stretch for her, with grit, determination and faith she made it work. Why not, she was a Wilson – she could make anything work!

Having been born in Flushing, Michigan, attending Durand High School, graduating from Michigan State University and Hurley School of Nursing, practicing nursing around the country, and serving her community and the Catholic Diocese of Kalamazoo, Theresa’s warm and caring heart touched the lives of so many people. She shared her talents, compassion, and love wherever she went, and she will be deeply missed and affectionately remembered.

Theresa is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband, Dr. Don Bouchard; stepdaughter, Nicole Russo (Ricky); grandson, Brendan Russo; and stepson, Spencer Bouchard (Chelsea); along with her siblings: Paul Wilson (Kathleen), Robert Wilson, John Wilson (Victoria), and Karen Walker (Stephen); and her nieces. Theresa was predeceased by her parents, William and Barbara Wilson.

Cremation has taken place and visitation will be held Friday, May 13, 2022 from 5-6 PM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hartford. The Rosary will be recited at 6 PM. The family will also receive friends on Saturday, May 14 at the Betzler Life Story Funeral Home from 10 am until 12 noon. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 1 PM at St. Augustine Cathedral in Kalamazoo. Burial will be at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
