Life Story / Obituary
Peggy Galloway was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 10, 1948, the daughter of George and Ruth (Clinard) Galloway. Peggy was a member of St. Lucy Parish in Detroit at the time of her entrance into the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph on August 24, 1966. Her reception was held on August 16, 1967 and she pronounced first vows on August 25, 1973 and final vows on July 17, 1977.
After graduating from St. Gertrude in 1966, Sister Peggy enrolled in Nazareth College and received her Bachelor’s Degree in English with a minor in Social Studies. She went on to receive her Master’s Degree from the University of Detroit with a major in English.
Sister Peggy’s entire ministry in education was in the Archdiocese of Detroit, Michigan. She began at Bishop Foley High School in Madison Heights. She also taught at Dominican High School and Bishop Gallagher High School. She was beloved by her students and known as a great teacher. From 1997-2000, Sister Peggy was in Congregational Formation and Development. Sr. Peggy returned to teaching for three years at Trinity High School 2000-2003. She was Director of Pastoral Care at the McCauley Center in Farmington Hills, Michigan from 2003-2011.
Even as dementia took away Peggy’s ability to speak sentences, she never lost her ability to communicate. Her smile continued to express her love to the caring people around her. She had special smiles for her family and CSJ’s who visited, and her beloved Garden Club sisters, especially her faithful friend Darlene Swiderski. She consistently smiled and chuckled at stories of “the good old days” including the antics of being one of 11 siblings and of early formation days. Peggy is a Sister of St Joseph in her heart of hearts. Her love is constant, and we are all blessed to have felt that love.
May She Rest In Peace!
