Life Story / Obituary

Marilyn Ann Kruger was born in Mongola, Indiana on March 28, 1928 the daughter of Clarence Kruger and Geneva (Faust) Kruger. She was a member of St. Philip Parish in Battle Creek, Michigan at the time of her entrance into the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Nazareth on September 1, 1959. She received the name Sister Geneva at her reception on July 2, 1960. She pronounced first vows on July 2, 1962 and final vows on July 2, 1965.

Sister Geneva graduated from Nazareth Academy in June, 1946. She received her A.B.R.L. degree from Hillcrest Medical Center with a Medical Library degree. She also received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1966 from Nazareth College with a major in Biology.

Sister Geneva began teaching at St. Michael and also taught at St. Joan of Arc School, both in the Diocese of Detroit, MI. In the Diocese of Lansing she taught for three years at St. Therese School. After receiving her degree from Hillcrest Medical Center, Sister Geneva’s ministry in healthcare began at St. John Hospital in Detroit, MI in their library. She taught religious education at the House of Prayer in Pinckney, MI and worked for Congregational Services, Fontbonne as a driver. For the next 17 years Sister Geneva was the Pastoral Minister for Borgess Hospital/Health Alliance in Kalamazoo, MI. After retiring from Borgess in 1994, Sister Geneva volunteered at Borgess, Fontbonne Manor, and support services.

Sister Geneva’s dedication, faith and love enriched many lives. Her every good work, thought and prayer brought God’s bright presence, blessings and love to many in her various and unique ministries. At the time of a Jubilee, she noted that one of her favorite scriptures was Psalm 103: 1,5 – “Bless the Lord my soul…He fills your lifetime with good.”

She especially treasured a long, sustaining friendship with Naomi Richter, with whom she shared countless experiences in life’s adventures of challenge and enjoyment. Sister Geneva’s life and goodness helped to change the world for the better and that vibrates on and remains forever. May she now be blessed with the eternal embrace of God whose love is everlasting.

May She Rest In Peace!
