Roy Alvarez

It is with great sadness the family announce the passing of Rodrigo “Roy” Alvarez, age 84, of Lawton, Michigan on March 7th, 2025.

Roy was born August 24th, 1940, in Donna, Texas, to Dolores “Lolo” Alvarez and Anita Lara Alvarez. He graduated from Donna High School in Donna, Texas. He met and married Paola “Paula” Martinez and became a father to two sons, Rodrigo “Roy” Junior and Ramiro Raul Alvarez.

Roy worked hard all of his life doing farm work in Texas and Michigan, where he settled with his wife and sons. He was a skilled vineyard worker and spent many seasons tending grapes in Southwest Michigan. He also worked for several years at Musselman’s in Paw Paw, Michigan.

After retirement, Roy enjoyed life alongside his wife, Paola. He loved watching college and pro football and was a fan of old Westerns and The Three Stooges. He also enjoyed listening to oldies of the 50s and 60s in both English and Spanish, with a favorite being “Trio Los Ponchos”.

Roy was preceded in death by his sister, Dolores Cedergren and parents Dolores “Lolo” and Anita Lara Alvarez.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Paola Martinez Alvarez, his two sons, Roy Jr. and Ramiro, and his grandsons Tyler Alvarez and Michael Alvarez. He is also survived by his sisters, Paula and Nelida Alvarez, Hilda (William) Byrd, Lourdes (Peter) Sever all of Norman, Oklahoma; Luvina (Dave) Alvarez Matyas of Paw Paw, Michigan and his brother-in-law Paul (Dolores) Cedergren of Oro Valley, Arizona. His is also survived by his brothers-in-law Santos, Lorenzo, Jaun, Cruz, Epifanio Martinez and sisters-in-law Gloria Rodriguez, Estela Chavez, and Rosalinda Hilmert all of Lawton, Michigan.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, sons, grandsons, sisters, extended family and friends.

Cremation has taken place.

A Life Story Visitation will be held at Betzler and Thompson Funeral Home, 60900 M-40, Paw Paw, Michigan 49079 on Wednesday March 19th, 2025, at 12 PM with a Prayer Service to follow at 1 PM.
