Life Story / Obituary

Rick Fiorita was 73, died May 10, 2021 in Mattawan. Rick was born September 26, 1947 in Erie, PA, the son of Richard A. and Margie (Sherwood) Fiorita. He grew up in Fern Creek, KY and graduated high school there. Rick was fondly known as “Rick the Hick from Fern-Crick”.

Rick proudly served in the United States Air Force reaching the rank of Sgt. during the Vietnam conflict. He had a great sense of humor and was a loving friend to all that knew him. He was welcomed into the Hansen Family in Spring 2012 and quickly filled a void that needed filling and became family. He was cherished and loved dearly. Rick loved spending time with his family cooking on his grill and being the entertainment. He was excited about baby Jane-Clair arriving in August and to be able to be called Grandpa Rick.

He is survived by his brother, Jeff (Cathy) Fiorita; nieces and nephews: Mark and family, Amy and family, Maggie and family and Blake and family. He and his companion of 9 years, Darlene Hansen; along with Darlene’s family: Mike (Jennifer) Hansen and their children: Cam (Stephanie) and Lindsey Hansen and Dave Hansen.

Cremation has taken place and private graveside services with full military honors will be held at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to VietnamVeterans Memorial Fund.
