Life Story / Obituary

Paul Winn (Leroy) of Lawton, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at the age of seventy-three. Paul was born on June 10th, 1950, in Plainwell, Michigan, son of Paul & Ora Dee (Williams) Winn.

Paul grew up in Portage, Michigan with his brothers and sister. Paul loved and played baseball. The family owned and raced Sprint cars, so naturally, Paul loved racing and rarely missed a NASCAR race. He was extremely talented and would tackle any project full speed. For instance, when his girls were little Paul was asked to build a treehouse. Paul couldn’t just build any tree house; this had to be a special project and didn’t involve a tree at all. His girls got an A-Frame house on stilts. The stairway was constructed so the dog could also enjoy the artisanship. It had screened windows, a door, and a front porch. Nowadays this would be called a tiny house. Paul spent a lot of time playing golf, riding his Harley, snowmobiling, and boating while living on Gravel Lake with his wife, Mary (Sterken) Winn of 32 years. Paul was a huge animal lover and spoiled his dogs terribly.

Paul followed in his father’s footsteps by becoming a crane operator and retired from the local Operating Engineers Union 324. His career took him on many journeys. As a crane operator Paul was part of construction on Crossroads Mall, Bronson Hospital, Cook Nuclear power plant and traveled to multiple states for work. As a side business, Paul designed and developed a golf ball recovery and striping system, he employed his daughters to clean and stripe the balls then sold them to the local driving ranges.

Paul is survived by his Wife, Mary; his two children: Carmen (Steve) Bierenga, Megan (Terry) Holroyd and their mother Brenda Winn. Also, four grandchildren; Darin Winn, Gage Roberts, Brooke Haring (Jake), Vanessa Roberts and five great-grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

The family is being assisted by the Betzler & Thompson Life Story Funeral Home, 60900 M-40, Paw Paw, MI 49079. (269) 657-3870. BetzlerLifeStory.com
