Martin “Marty” Ellard, age 60, of Portage died unexpectantly on Sunday, May 22, 2022. He was born on November 12, 1961, the son of Donald and Emily Ellard. He grew up in Plainwell along with his brother and sisters. He attended Plainwell High School where he excelled on the football field and the wrestling mat. Marty faithfully served his country with the U.S. Army. He enjoyed cooking and along with his brother they started the Taste of Texas Barbeque. He also enjoyed building radio controlled cars and boats, fishing, watching Christian movies and was a Detroit Lions fan. Family was important to Marty and he would cook his mother breakfast each morning and made sure that dinner was available for her in the evening. He was a loving son, brother and uncle who will be missed by everyone that knew him. Marty was truly a servant of God and cared for others and all of God’s creations. On July 25, 1981 he married Debbie Dussia and together they had a son Ben. Members of his family include his mother Emily Hornev, 4 siblings: Scott ( Debbie) Ellard, Pamela Alling, Susan Dunn, Toni ( Brian) Moore and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his son Ben (Nicole) Dussia and their son Logan. He was preceded in death by his father and a niece Amber(Alling) Diaz. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 11 am on July 15, 2022 at the Plainwell First United Methodist Church.
