Linda Barrett, age 92, of Richland, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 10, 2022 at Butterfly Oasis Assisted Living. Linda was born on April 5,1930 in Kalamazoo, MI, the daughter of Benjamin and Ruth (Brown) Fritz. She attended public school in Kalamazoo and graduated from Nazareth Academy in 1948. She attended Michigan State University and graduated in 1952 with a degree in education. She taught in the Lansing and Kalamazoo public schools and St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Kalamazoo. In June 1954, Linda married John R. Barrett, who preceded her in death in 1990.

She was the manager of Building Supplies and Home Improvement department at K-Mart on Gull Road. She made friends of co-workers and many of her customers. Linda volunteered at the Gull Lake Area Ambulance Service and St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was a member of the Nazareth Association and the Gull Prairie Garden Club. In retirement she worked part time at the Doster Store.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters: Francis and Patricia; and her daughter, Patricia Kube. Surviving are her children: Rebecca Barrett, Daniel (Ruth) Barrett, Sarah Coville, and Andrew (Veronica) Barrett; grandchildren: Jonah, Aaron, Nathan, Michelle, Manny, Kealey, Cordelia, and Ben; great-grandchildren: Jack, Emmeline, and Brendon; a brother in-law, Mark Barrett; and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 936 Lake Street, Kalamazoo, MI, on Friday November 18 at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place immediately following at Prairie Home Cemetery in Richland, MI. Family will gather after the burial at the Richland Bowling Alley. Cremation has taken place.
