Judie Merwin, age 76, of Decatur died on Sunday September 1, 2019. She was born on February 1, 1943 in East Jordan Michigan, the daughter of Edward and Melvina (Davis) Kotalik. She was a longtime resident of the East Jordan area and graduated from East Jordan High School in 1961. For 24 years she operated a day care out of her home where over time she helped care for hundreds of kids. On December 26, 1981 she married Bill Merwin and together they enjoyed traveling, snowmobiling and motorcycle riding. Judie was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary and was a big fan of NASCAR. Members of her family include her husband Bill, 2 daughters: Connie (Mike) Juszczyk of Decatur, Christine (Dan) Brooks of Tavares FL, a son Tim Peebles of East Jordan and stepson Ancel (Linda) Merwin of Thunder Bay Ontario. Other members of her family include her 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, a brother George Kotalik and a sister Mary Ann Kotsch both of East Jordan. She was preceded in death by a brother Edward Kotalik, and a sister Charlene Brennan and a grandson Jack. Cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will be held at a later date. Judie’s cremated remains will be buried at St. John’s Cemetery in the Bohemian settlement in East Jordan.
