Life Story / Obituary

Print

It is with great sadness that the family of John Jay Jackson announces his passing on May 29, 2023, at age 92. John was born on October 14, 1930, in Decatur, Michigan.

John and his wife Sarah were lifelong farmers who were one of the first to irrigate corn in western Michigan, beginning in 1965. For many years they also had a large chicken operation for eggs, fryers, and pullets. A part of the farm where he grew up became a centennial farm in 1985 and is still in the family today. He loved big band music, Harley Davidson motorcycles, old movies, old cars, playing cards, pool and ping pong. His choice in tractor color was green over red on any day of the week.

John is survived by his wife of 69 years, Sarah; and his two sons, Thomas (Cheryl) Jackson and Jerry (Cindy) Jackson; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. His daughter, Toni (Dan) Benson, preceded him in death in 2013. His family will hold a private memorial and burial at a later date in his honor. If you would like to make a donation in John’s memory, please consider the American Cancer Society.
