Dennis Mohney

Dennis Mohney passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on April 4th, 2021 after experiencing complications from COVID. Dennis was born along with his twin, Dan Mohney, on August 21st, 1953 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to the parents of Willard and Elizabeth (Kiewiet) Mohney. Dennis was one of 11 siblings. Prior to working at Kalamazoo Valley Dennis worked as custodial staff at Vicksburg High School. Starting at the age of 18-years-old Dennis began working at Kalamazoo Valley Community. In 1972 Dennis graduated from Vicksburg High School.

Dennis and Connie met while working at Kalamazoo Valley Community College; Connie worked as a night time switch board operator and Dennis was part of the night time custodial staff. During their night swifts together Dennis grew fonder and fonder of Connie. While Dennis doubted he would be able to convince Connie to date him, he was surprised when she agreed to a date. Their first date consisted of a carriage ride and pizza. Dennis and Connie dated for a year until they got engaged on their way home from church. Dennis married Connie Marie Tomlin on September 21st, 1995 in Richland, MI and had their receptionist at Kalamazoo Valley Community College, where their love began. On November 4th, 1999 Dennis and Connie had the joy of becoming parents to their son Adam William Mohney. Dennis and Connie spent time biking, watching comedy shows, visiting the local farmers market and spending time with friends and family. Dennis loved visiting his parents. As Adam grew up, he and Dennis became closer and closer. Adam saw his dad as his best friend. Dennis enjoyed collecting comic books, watching sci-fi and comedy.

He was preceded in death by his parents Willard and Elizabeth (Kiewiet) Mohney, brother JohnnyBill, twin brother Dan Mohney and his sister Ellen Bates. Dennis is survived by his wife of 25 years Connie Mohney, son Adam Mohney; seven siblings: Joe (MaryAnn) of Mission, Texas; Larry (Phyllis) of Frohna, Missouri; Bill (Linda) of Vicksburg, Michigan; Mark Mohney of Casco, Wisconsin; Pat (Stan) Makowski of Vicksburg, Michigan; Mary Soule of Baldwin, Michigan; Brenda (Clyde) Wayne of Schoolcraft, Michigan; many brother-in-laws and sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews.

There will be an outdoor celebration of Dennis’ life at the Vicksburg Cemetery (333 W Hwy St, Vicksburg, MI, 49097) on Friday, April 16th, 2021 at 10:00 AM. Due to COVID there will not be a luncheon following the ceremony but family will be stay around to visit. At the families request memorial contributions in Dennis’ name is to be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan (see information below).
