David Gruizenga

Age 73, died on August 20, 2020. Dave was born December 25, 1946 in Kalamazoo, the son of Henry and Henrietta (Penning) Gruizenga. Having served his country aboard the USS Allagash, Dave proudly flew the Navy flag at his home and enjoyed sharing many stories about his days aboard ship. After being honorably discharged, he began dating and fell in love with Shirley Kloosterman. The happy couple was married in 1972 and so began their true love story. Dave began a career at Clarage where he became a machinist and made several lifelong friends. He later found enjoyment at a second career with Meijer. Dave had a wonderful sense of humor and quick wit which helped shoppers and friends alike find their smile.

He always seemed to have a project in the works at home, but having his friends and family come over to assist was the best part for Dave. A man devoted to his faith, his loving wife, Shirley, and his son, Fate, Dave leaves behind a treasure of memories. We will miss your wonderful smile, our friend.

Dave was preceded in death by the love of his life, Shirley. Surviving are his son, Fate Gruizenga; his sister: Ruth Vlietstra; 3 nephews and 1 niece. Cremation has taken place. A private service with military honors will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
