Life Story / Obituary
Dave’s story began in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where he graduated from Loy Norrix High School in 1968. A few years later, he earned his Associate in Arts degree from Kalamazoo Valley Community College in 1971, followed by a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Michigan University in 1974. His dedication to helping others led him to a long and meaningful career at the Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital, where he worked for 30 years.
In 2020, Dave became a member of St. Augustine Cathedral, a place that brought him peace and connection in his later years. But his greatest joys were found not in titles or accolades, but in the simple, beautiful moments of life.
To know Dave was to know someone who was caring, gentle, compassionate, funny, and always quick with a witty remark. He found joy in gardening, puzzles, playing cards, and the occasional game of online poker—often paired with lively conversations with his brother-in-law. His happiest moments were spent with family, whether gathered around a kitchen table or cheering from the sidelines as his grandchildren played golf, basketball, or showed off their tumbling skills.
In 2023, Dave and his beloved wife Kathy marked 50 years of marriage with a celebration at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. Surrounded by their children and grandchildren, it was a weekend filled with laughter, storytelling, and the kind of memories that would live on forever.
What they will miss most is his smile, his infectious laugh, and the unwavering positivity he brought into every room. And while there were many moments of deep love and connection, there were just as many that sparked uncontrollable laughter—because Dave had a gift for making people laugh, even in the most unexpected moments.
His story is one of kindness, humor, and a life well lived—a legacy that will continue to bloom in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
In keeping with the wishes of Dave, there will be no funeral service. The family is planning a private celebration of his life at a later date.
