Life Story / Obituary
Corrine Nadrasik leaves her family with a rich legacy of being a strong role model and an exceptionally committed person to those she loved. She treasured the time she spent with her family and was immensely proud of every one of them. There is no doubt that she will be deeply missed by her many friends and loved ones.
Melvin and Rose (Stasiak) Plocek welcomed home their youngest daughter, Corrine, on January 19th, 1942 in Toledo, Ohio. America had just experienced Pearl Harbor and entered World War II. The domestic homefront was challenged with rationing canned meats, butter, and cheeses. Her birth brought much hope and happiness to the family home.
Corrine lived a happy childhood with many fond memories. She enjoyed visiting the family farm in Ida, Michigan or taking the train to Chicago where she’d spend time with her relatives and cousins. Her parents taught her the importance of family and she had a special bond with her dad where they shared countless visits to the park across the street from their home. Studious as well as ambitious, after graduating from St. Ursula Catholic High School in Toledo, Corrine set her sights on becoming a nurse.
While in the nursing program at St. Vincent, a young man named David Nadrasik caught her attention. They grew up just a few blocks away from each other and shared common friends, but didn’t think about dating each other until now. Eventually the loving couple married on August 31, 1963, at St. Adelbert Church and honeymooned at Niagara Falls. She and Dave had a wonderful time enjoying the famous falls and taking in the scenery.
Originally, they raised their family in Waterville, Ohio and later moved to Lawton, Michigan in 1974 when Dave accepted a new position with Coca-Cola. Corrine was thrilled to be hired at Western Michigan University’s Student Health Center as Assistant Director of Nursing.
The importance of family was a constant theme around the Nadrasik household. Special traditions such as making Polish perogies at Christmastime are still enjoyed annually by her children and grandchildren today.
Corrine instilled in her children the idea of being independent. Always supportive, she watched out for them, encouraged them, and cheered them on in any of their individual interests. She was immensely proud of her children, and they never doubted her love for them.
Eventually, Corrine and Dave moved to a condo in Comstock, and they also bought a condo at Cocoa Beach, Florida when they first retired. There, they had plenty of opportunities to golf, chat with neighbors, and sit on the deck enjoying the ocean view. For the seven years that they owned the Cocoa property, their four children and their families had a great place to visit.
Every summer, Corrine and Dave rented a condo in South Haven, Michigan near where they kept their boat. Weekends offered a regular family gathering either at the condo or boat slip area. As much as the couple liked the relaxed lifestyle, they also took extensive trips to Australia, New Zeeland, Italy, and the Canadian northwest. A memorable experience was Corrine riding a camel in Australia.
Above all else, Corrine and Dave were actively involved with their grandchildren. She taught them how to cook, garden, and decorate! A Master gardener with the Paw Paw Garden Club for many years, they were learning from the best! Her artistic tastes inspired fresh artwork adorning her walls with the changing seasons. She’d even rearrange the furniture to keep things interesting. She loved attending live performances at Miller Auditorium or the Kalamazoo Civic over the years. Often, she would take her grandkids with her to enjoy a performance.
Corrine was a skilled shopper with her talents enjoyed by QVC and Meijers amongst others. A favorite memory was taking her daughter, Carrie, to Chicago just before the holidays to shop and enjoy lunch at the Walnut Room under the Christmas tree at Macy’s. She loved to treat her family to special moments and leaves a wonderful collection of memories behind.
Corrine Nadrasik of Kalamazoo, age 83, died on June 23, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband, David; brother, Edward Plocek; and granddaughter, Amanda. Surviving are her children: Craig (Tina) Nadrasik, Carrie (John) Assenmacher, Steve (Erin) Nadrasik, and Mike (Holly) Nadrasik; grandchildren: Mike (Jodie), Colby (Angie), Lucas, Colin, Garet, Zoe, Maddox, Damon and Audrey; great-grandchildren: Hayden, Sawyer, Wrenlee and Bryson; and brother, Melvin Plocek.
