Christopher Vera

Christopher John Vera died at his home on Sunday, August 2, 2020. Chris was born September 19, 1962, the son of Donald and Elaine Vera and grew up in Kalamazoo. He attended Mattawan Schools, graduating in 1981 where he played on the football team. After high school he attended Western Michigan University where he obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Biology and later he received his Master’s Degree in Environmental Science from the University of Maine. He has lived and worked in the states of Maine, Washington and North Carolina before returning to the area where he worked as an environmental biologist for the Michigan Department of Transportation. He enjoyed the outdoors especially mountain biking, hiking, kayaking and fishing. His constant and faithful companion was his dog Max. While relaxing at home he enjoyed watching monster movies. Chris will be dearly missed by his 3 sisters: Jenny (Bruce) Peel, Jessie (Mike) Weddington, Ellen Vera (Jeri Nederhoed); 4 nephews: Aaron and Tyler Weddington and Don and Darren Peel. Cremation has taken place and private services will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Paws for a Cause.
