Age 79, died peacefully after a long illness on November 28, 2018. Carl, “Fletch” to family and friends, was born January 18, 1939 in Otsego, WV to Carl F. Hizer Sr. and Donnie (Myers) Hizer. He joined the Army and served in Korea. Moving to Kalamazoo he worked at Checker Motors, but was best known for his 30 year carpet business. His favorite hobby was fishing on his “Great Lakes Special.” Carl is survived by Gladys, his wife of 54 years; daughter: Lisa; son: John (fiancé Lisa Jasensky); sisters: Judith (Harold) Harper of Louisville, KY, Ruth (Garrett) Bolhuis of Kalamazoo; grandson: Nathan (Kathleen) Hizer; great grandsons: Atraeu, Archimedes, and Nicodemus; and nieces and nephews. Carl was preceded in death by his son, Michael, and brother, Gary. Visit with family and friends on Thursday (Dec 6) from 5-7PM at Betzler Life Story Funeral Home, 6080 Stadium Dr. Kalamazoo (269) 375-2900. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 421 Monroe St, on Friday (Dec 7) at 10:30AM where a luncheon will follow. Private burial will take place. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made care of Gladys Hizer for the education of their great grandsons.
