Life Story / Obituary

Therese (Carley) Price, Age 93, entered eternal life on March 10, 2021. Therese was born in Pleasant Ridge, Michigan, April 19, 1927, the daughter of Albert and Margaret (Beck) Carley.

Therese was a life-long selfless caregiver. She devoted her life of care to others and the Church. In 1942 she entered the Community of the Sisters of St. Joseph and made her final vows in 1948. In the early 1960s Therese moved to Washington, DC to pursue a Masters Degree at the Catholic University of America. There she studied with other nuns and priests where the community debated the issues arising out of the Second Vatican Council. She continued her vocation and was a teacher until 1969.

In 1970, she married Frank Price of Livonia, Michigan and became the mother to his five children. During the years raising a family and thereafter, Therese taught at St. Agatha School and was involved in a variety of volunteer leadership roles in the Church. After caring for her father in his final years, she started Hospice Support Services in 1981 to help other families in their time of need. In September of 2001 she was invited to attend the United Nations General Assembly’s recognition of the International Year of Volunteers for her many years of service. While there, the September 11th attacks occurred and she continued in her volunteer spirit assisting families search through hospital lists.

She acted as a servant of the Lord throughout her life. She was greatly loved and will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank in 2010. In 2011 Therese moved to Ascension Living on the same grounds where she started as a novitiate in 1942. There she was able to reconnect with friends she made during her novitiate training and continued to love and care for those around her. She also enjoyed giving tours to family and friends of the Mother House with its unique replica of the Scala Sancta.

Surviving are her children: Peggy (Randy) List, John (Kathy) Price, James Price, Steven Price and Joanne Sad; 9 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews, and their families.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial mass will be held Thursday, March 18th, 2021 at 11:00am at St. Ambrose Church in Parchment, Michigan. Visit Therese’s personal webpage at www.BetzlerLifeStory.com where you may archive a favorite memory or photo, and sign her online guestbook.
