Age 96, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2020. Theresa was born September 11, 1923 in South Bend, IN, the daughter of Michael and Johanna Michalski. She was employed by Gilbert’s Department Store in South Bend as a sales clerk and model, where she modeled women’s service uniforms during WWII. It was there she met the love of her life, James Jewell, when he came in to be fitted for his Coast Guard uniform during the war. They were married in 1946 and moved to Decatur where they built their home and raised their family. Theresa cherished her family and enjoyed spending time with them and was always there to help raise her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, especially her beautiful flowers. Theresa was a lifelong member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Decatur, a member of Our Lady’s Prayer Group and the Altar Society. Preceding her in death besides her parents are her husband, James Jewell; 2 brothers: Michael and Sylvester; 3 sisters: Jennifer, Angeline and Veronica; and great grandchild, Christopher. Surviving are 4 children: Judith Hanson of Smyrna, TN, Janet Copenhaver of Lawton, James (Connie) Jewell of Benton Harbor and John (Cindy) Jewell of Lawton; 17 grandchildren; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
