Life Story / Obituary
Sherron Kay (Atkins) Ducksworth, 57, passed away Friday April 18, 2025. Sherron’s family mourns this unexpected loss deeply. She was born to Robert Wayne Atkins and Anita Sue Rutherford on August 14, 1967, in Greenfield, IN. She was the oldest of three children. Her family moved to Mississippi early in her childhood. She lived on the Mississippi Gulf Coast for fifty years before moving to Michigan a few years ago to be close to her daughter and grandchildren. For the better part of forty years, she worked in restaurant management and had made countless friends along the way. She gained the love and respect of those around her and will be remembered as kind, fair and hardworking.
Being the firstborn daughter, she was a natural leader. She was strong-willed and never known to whisper. As an older sister, she never lost an argument. Her opinions and advice were frequently sought out by her daughter and her daughter’s friends who grew up in awe of her knowledge.
Sherron was a 1985 graduate of Biloxi High School in Biloxi, Mississippi. She was a member of the Biloxi High Marching band, playing alto saxophone and performed as a member of the flag corps. In recent years, she was very proud that her oldest granddaughter, Sawyer Kay, had followed in her saxophone footsteps, and she enjoyed giving her tips and advice.
Sherron was an avid reader and loved Stephen King and Dean Koontz novels the most. She was a lover of a wide variety of music, but her all time favorite song was Ain’t No Sunshine by Bill Withers. Her favorite TV shows were The Andy Griffith Show and Seinfeld which she enjoyed watching with her husband, Billy.
In her free time, she was found hanging out at home with her family. She adored her grandchildren, whom she affectionately called her babies, more than anything in the world and frequently said so. She was a loving and doting mother to her only child, a daughter, Ashley, with whom she shared a very special and close relationship with. Sherron also had a close relationship with her son-in-law, Matt, with whom she shared many inside jokes and her love of music. She spent close to thirty years with her husband, Billy, who remembers her as the most loving person he’d ever met. They spent their lives together in constant love and laughter, punctuated with a frequent Seinfeld reference.
She is preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Martha Lyons, uncles Robert Lyons, Roland Lyons and Roy Lyons. She is survived by her husband, Billy McCormick, her mother, Anita Martin, her daughter and son-in-law, Ashley and Matthew Busick, two granddaughters, Sawyer Kay Busick and Jude Busick, one grandson, Wyatt Busick, one sister Deborah Atkins, one brother Robert Atkins, two nephews, Mica Atkins and Eyan Atkins, two nieces, Teagan Atkins and Charlotte Atkins and plenty of cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Pancreatic Cancer Research Charities such as Project Purple.
