Life Story / Obituary
Sally Dennany was a strong-willed person who lived a simple life. She was close with her parents and her nieces and nephews. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for them. A hard worker and successful accountant, she enjoyed many simple pleasures, yet her family was her greatest treasure. Sadly, she is gone. Sally will be sincerely missed by her close family and many special loved ones.
Born in Kalamazoo, Sally lived a typical childhood of the times. Raised during the 1950s, it was common for families to watch Elvis Presley on television as well as listen to his music, which was hitting the charts. Rock and Roll was making its debut. Sally was one of five children, including twins, which meant there was never a dull moment in the Dennany household! She attended local schools, starting at Edison Elementary, and later graduated with the Class of 1974 from Kalamazoo Central High School. A quiet and reserved student, Sally made only a handful of close friends. After graduation, she made her way to Kalamazoo Valley Community College and later earned her Bachelor’s in accounting.
Sally lived most of her life with her parents. She and her dad were both born with a stubborn gene and were like two peas in a pod. She and her mom enjoyed showing their cats at local cat shows and had a close bond due to the years they had spent bonding when she was a stay-at-home mom. As a family, they never missed a birthday celebration and enjoyed spending the holidays with family. Sally was especially close with her nieces and nephews and always took time to attend their special celebrations and birthday gatherings. Sadly, her dad died in 1984. She and her dad enjoyed sitting and watching TV together. She was there for him for whatever he needed. She had many special memories of her dad. Above all else, she knew she was loved by her family.
As an adult, Sally enjoyed her work life as well as her many special pastimes. For the past twenty years, Sally has worked as an accountant for KSS (Kalamazoo Sanitary Supply). She enjoyed helping others and got along well with her co-workers. They relied on her talent with numbers and never doubted that she would finish her work before leaving for home each day.
When it came to her free time, Sally liked to soak up cuddles with her pet cats. She had several over the years and even received the Morris Award once. Shopping was a favorite pastime. She loved buying gifts for the holidays, especially if she was able to find a good deal. When she found a sale on an expensive item, she would snatch it up, and she never bought anything but the very best chocolate! A lifelong lover of music, she was a fan of country and soft rock, especially Glenn Campbell. Sally enjoyed a very simple life of sharing time with her close-knit family and her furry friends.
Described for her fiery personality, Sally was also very caring and took great concern for the cats she so loved. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her. May her loved ones always cherish their memories of the good times they created together, and may her memories be eternal.
Sally Dennany, age 68, died peacefully on July 30, 2025 in Kalamazoo. She was preceded in death by her parents and by 3 siblings: Carl Dennany, Terry “Tariq” Dennany and Sally Dennany. Surviving are her siblings: Maxine Trams and Mike (Mary) Dennany and by many nieces and nephews.
Cremation will take place. Please join the family in a Life Story Visitation where food, drink and stories will be shared on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, from 5-7pm at Betzler Life Story Funeral Homes, 6080 Stadium Drive, Kalamazoo (269) 375-2900.
