Age 98, died on Wednesday, July 1, 2020. Bob was born on May 13, 1922 in Detroit, the son of John and Mary (Dembinski) Wasielewski and grew up in Detroit where he graduated from Cass Technical High School. He was employed as a telephone repairman for Michigan Bell Telephone before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1942. Bob served in the Signal Corp with the 20th Air Force, serving as a radio repairman and Radar Technician. Upon his discharge he enrolled at Wayne State University where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology. He did additional graduate work at the University of Michigan to become a Certified Consulting Psychologist. Through the years Bob worked as a counselor at the Mayfield Sanitarium, as a Clinical Psychologist at Northville State Hospital and as a psychologist in the Garden City and Livonia School districts. In 1964 he joined the faculty of Western Michigan University where he taught in the Special Education Department until his retirement in 1989. On December 26, 1949 he married Virginia Bush and together they raised their 5 children in a caring and loving home. Bob will be remembered as an even tempered person who was kind to others and who was quick to listen. He was a supportive and loving Father and Grandfather who took time to be a part of his family’s accomplishments. Members of his family include his 5 children: Margaret (David) Battjes, Elizabeth Westley (Steven Mach), James (Cynthia), Matthew (Sandra), Catherine (James) Insley; 7 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia “Ginny” in 2012; 2 sisters: Virginia Wilson and Dorothy Bozek; and 2 brothers: Joseph and Herbert. Cremation has taken place and services will be announced at a later date.
