Robert Eugene Alban, Jr, of Kalamazoo, age 76, died on August 3, 2024. Rob was born May 11, 1948 in Kalamazoo to Robert and Donna (Leggett) Alban. Surviving are his devoted wife, Cheri; children: Rob Alban and Chad (Lesley) Alban; grandchildren: Haydin, Emersyn, Skylar, and Vann; and siblings: Jo Ellen King and Dan Alban.

Rob was a fixture in his community, known for his outgoing nature and his ability to connect with everyone he met. As a manager at Borroughs Manufacturing, he earned the respect of many. Outside of work, he dedicated much of his time to volunteering with the Little League, serving as president and assisting with the Little League World Series when it was held in Kalamazoo.

A true people person, Rob was recognized for his friendly demeanor and willingness to help others. He was often seen around his neighborhood, whether cleaning out gutters, mowing yards, or cruising on his golf cart making his daily rounds. His remarkable ability to converse with anyone he encountered endeared him to many. It was impossible to go anywhere, even across the country, without meeting someone whom Rob impacted.

Rob’s passion for sports was well-known. He was an avid fan of the Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Tigers, and Michigan State University. He immersed himself in watching games on TV and following his son’s pursuits through their school days. Golfing was another passion, though he was sidelined by a back injury in recent years. Despite this, Rob’s enthusiasm never waned. His companionship with his pets, including his dog who enjoyed TV time with him, brough him great joy.

A Celebration of Life Open House will be held Saturday, August 31, from 2-5 PM at Louie’s Trophy House, 629 Walbridge St, Kalamazoo. Celebrate Rob’s life online by sharing your favorite stories and photos on his dedicated webpage at BetzlerLifeStory.com. Memorial contributions may be made to SPCA of Southwest Michigan.
