Richard "Dick" Jones

Richard L. “Dick” Jones, passed away peacefully at his home, at the age of 84, on Wednesday, May 13, 2020.

Dick was a life-long resident of Kalamazoo, leaving only long enough to serve in the Army 101st Airborne Division. He was a kind-hearted, gifted, intelligent, hardworking man who lived life helping, serving, and providing for others. While owning and operating Kalamazoo Heating and Appliance and serving for over 42 years on the Oshtemo Fire Dept., his friends, family and neighbors knew they could usually find him at the farm. He was always ready and willing to lend a hand, repair or build something, give you his ear, or anything else you might need. Dick started each day with music by listening to Cool 101 on the radio. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, reading, and watching old westerns, particularly Gunsmoke. He especially enjoyed being with his grandkids and spending time at his Baldwin cabin with his North Lake “family”.

He is preceded in death by his adoptive parents Merle Rosco Jones and Emma Theo (Sleeman) and an infant son. He was dedicated to his family and is survived by his sons, Richard L. “Chip” Jones Jr, Merle R. Jones II, and his daughter Bethany (Bob) Carper. Also, his companion of 31 years, Bonnie L. Covell, his granddaughters Heather Page, Andrea (CJ) Kusmierz, Alisha Cook, and his great-grandson Jaxon Page.

Private graveside services are being held for the family at Genesee Prairie Cemetery in Oshtemo. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Elara Caring or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
