Life Story / Obituary
Rebecca Peek Thomsen passed away at the Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan on December 28, 2024. She died from complications related to pneumonia. Becky was beloved by her family and friends for her big, open heart and kindness. She enjoyed music, Gator football, gardening, her dog Gracie, and spending time with her many friends and her three lovely grandchildren. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
Becky was born to Ralph and Ruth (Chase) Peek in Lexington, Kentucky on April 20, 1950. The daughter of a preacher, Becky moved often during childhood spending time in Manchester, Georgia and LaGrange, Georgia before settling in Gainesville, Florida. In 1968 she graduated from Gainesville High School, where she was a proud member of the majorette team. Becky was a loyal Floridian, but also spend years living in Asheville, North Carolina and, most recently, Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Becky was married in 1969 to David Earle Moore and they had two sons, David Blaine Moore in 1972 and Stephen Peek Moore in 1974. Later in life, Becky had a loving marriage to Gary Douglas Fitchlee. They lived happily in Gainesville, Florida and Asheville, North Carolina. After Gary’s unexpected passing in 2008, Becky relocated to Gainesville for a short period of time before moving permanently to Kalamazoo, Michigan in 2012. There she met and fell in love with Douglas Scott Thomsen. Their happy marriage lasted until Doug’s untimely death in 2016.
Becky was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Ruth Peek, and her brothers, Alan Peek and Roger Peek. Surviving are her sons Blaine (Andreea) Moore and their children Cora and Victor; her son Stephen Moore and his son Nikolas. A party celebrating Becky’s life will take place in Kalamazoo, Michigan, over Memorial Day weekend 2025 (details to follow). In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Kalamazoo Animal Rescue would be appreciated.
