With heavy hearts, we share that our dad, Randall “Randy” William Rence, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2025.

Randy leaves behind his children: Kelley, Kyle, and Kate Rence; their partners Patrick Gaskin, TJ Pope, Rich Ong and his three beloved grandchildren: Maddox, Mia, and Makenna Gaskin.

Born on March 18, 1953 in Detroit, Michigan to William “Bill / Tiny” and Donna Jean Rence, Randy grew up surrounded by love and laughter with his sisters Shelley and Anita, and his brothers Kevin, Patrick, and Scott. He was a lifelong Detroit sports fan—nothing made him happier than catching a game at Old Tiger Stadium or cheering for the Lions at the Silverdome with his brother Pat.

Randy earned his business degree from Ferris State University, where he met and later married Laurie Kleist, the mother of his three kids. Together they made a home in Portage, Michigan, where Randy became a fixture at South Portage Little League. He served as Equipment Manager, coached all three of his kids, and shared his love of the game with countless memories. He built a life on West Lake, where weekends were filled with boating, tubing, water skiing, fishing, and endless family fun.

In his later years, Randy’s greatest joy came from being grandpa to Maddox, Mia, and Makenna. Whether he was racing Maddox in the yard, reading stories to Mia, or sneaking Makenna her favorite treats, he adored every moment with them.

Randy was proud of his children and the lives they’ve built. He was deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew him.

In place of flowers or food, we ask that donations be made to a fund supporting Little League. Contributions will go toward registration fees for kids who dream of playing baseball but may face financial obstacles—an effort that honors Randy’s love for the game and his giving spirit.Venmo: @Kelley-Rence
