Nicholas Misiuk was a hard working man. Sometimes he could be set in his ways but one knew where you stood with him as he was honest and forthright on his opinions. Though he is no longer with us, his memory will be in the hearts, minds and souls of those who knew and loved him.

Nick was born on April 25, 1938 in what is now the country of Ukraine. His family was displaced because of the war in Europe and in 1951 the Misiuk family came to the United States through Ellis Island. The Misiuk family was sponsored locally in Kalamazoo by the 1st Presbyterian Church. The family assimilated into the community and Nick graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1958. Shortly after graduation he joined the United States Air Force where he served his country with honor.

One fateful day while at the Walgreen’s Drugstore in downtown Kalamazoo he met Linda Kuranda who was working as a clerk. The friendship turned into love and the couple was happily married in 1965. Later they would receive their son Terry into their family. As a Father Nick was stern but fair and supportive of his son.

Nick worked long hours as a diesel mechanic. He briefly had his own business but worked mainly for B&B trucking and later R & L Carriers. Nick finally retired in 2008 at the age of 70. Retirement allowed him to enjoy life a little more as he enjoyed going out to eat, visiting casinos and watching classic TV shows such as Gunsmoke and Walker Texas Ranger.

Nick passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024. He left a lasting imprint on his family and friends. He is survived by his son, Terry; and his brother, Petro. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Linda in 2007; and his sister, Olga and brother, Joseph. Cremation has taken place and services will be held at a later date.
