Life Story / Obituary

Michael Edward Koehne age 74, passed peacefully on Nov 18, 2023, surrounded by family after fighting a long illness. Mike was born on July 27, 1949 as the middle child of parents Mary and Frank Koehne.

Mike grew up in Chicago, Illinois, where he and his family enjoyed the city life before moving to Mattawan, Michigan. Mike enlisted in the United States Army from 1969-1971, stationed in Colorado, and then moved back to Michigan after being discharged from the Army

Mike believed deeply in God, resting daily in his faith. He knew his last breath here would be his first breath in heaven, seamlessly. He had a warm and kind personality filled with humor. His work life included self-ownership in the carpet business and helping families reach their dreams with custom home building; and other fun jobs including working with Farrell Audio and Video and as a Walgreens Cashier. Mike was a storyteller; he enjoyed sharing his views of faith and politics. His imaginative mind could take a thought and create a story about that thought. He wrote short epics about his family and children, pets, and home. Mikes most important accomplishment in his heart and soul were his children, his family, his friends; he deeply loved them all. His daily devotion was “to make someone smile.”

Mike is survived by his wife, Pamela Koehne; sons: Michael Koehne Jr., Zachary Koehne, and Jacob Koehne; stepsons: Christopher Jones and Jesse Jones, and Daughters-in-law (which he always considered his daughters): Chloe Jones and Lynne Jones; grandsons: Max Koehne and Henry Koehne, Jackson Jones and Lucas Jones; granddaughter, Sarah Jones. Also survived by his brother, Gilbert Curtis Koehne, and preceded in death by his brother, Patrick Koehne. He also has many nieces and nephews and step nieces and nephews and friends.

Cremation has taken place. There will be a Burial Service on Thursday, Nov. 30 at 1:30 PM for immediate family at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan. A Celebration of Life gathering will follow at Family Altar Chapel, 14844 6 1/2 Mile Road, Battle Creek from 2:30-4:00 PM. All are welcome.
