Margaret Rietveld

Age 93, passed away on March 11, 2022. Margaret was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands on July 15, 1928, the daughter of Willem and Cornelia Rietveld. Margaret served in the Dutch Military for 3 years. She immigrated to the United States in 1957 and lived in Dallas, TX; Detroit, MI, and Cary, IL before settling in Portage, MI. Margaret worked for Marygrove College in Detroit and later for her brother’s business in Illinois. After settling in Portage, Margaret began her career in retail at Macy’s where she worked until she was 91. She had a large circle of family and friends and was known for her strong work ethic and extremely generous nature. Margaret is survived by her sister and brother-in-law: Laura and Joseph Litvin; 8 nieces and nephews, and their spouses; 19 great nieces and nephews, and their spouses; and 8 great-great nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be held at Saturday (MAR 19) 10 AM at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1150 W. Centre Ave., Portage. Memorial contributions may be made to Centrica Care Navigators (Rose Arbor Hospice).
