Elizabeth M. Seaver

Libby or “The Libster”

Elizabeth Marie (Stout) Seaver was born October 8, 1941, in Quincy, MA and died on April 10, 2026 in Kalamazoo, MI. During the eight decades between those dates, she lived a full life - drawing people to her wherever she lived, toured or volunteered. Friends and family called her Libby or affectionately, “The Libster”. She was the eldest daughter of 5 siblings born to Frank A. Stout and Virginia Downey Stout. As youngsters they grew up in Milton, MA and spent time in Scituate, MA in the summers. In 1954 The Stout family endured heartbreaking losses of the youngest brother Michael, to Leukemia in March followed by the sudden loss of their father Frank in August. For Libby as a young teenager, she learned how to face challenges and tragedies by facing each day – A Day at a Time.

Libby grew up in St. Agatha’s Elementary School and Parish in Milton, MA, went to high school at Fontbonne Academy and finished her education at Emmanuel College in Boston, MA graduating in 1963. While in college, her best friend Nancy Collins brought her along to visit her boyfriend who was attending Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. It was during this weekend that Libby met her future husband, Peter Seaver.

Peter returned from Vietnam in August of 1966 and they soon married in October that same year. In October, 1967 their daughter Kerry was born followed by their son Edward (Eddie) in 1970. The Upjohn Company brought Libby & Peter to Kalamazoo, MI in 1976. While Peter’s career developed, Libby was a full time Mom, hostess extraordinaire, gardener, tennis player, bridge player, volunteer and special friend to countless people. Libby was a magnet to those around her; people were drawn to her and her engaging spirit wherever she went. It has been said on many occasions Libby has never met a stranger whether in Michigan, Massachusetts, Florida or around the globe. Libby was involved in all her children’s activities: sports, social commitments and homework. Being a mother brought her tremendous joy. She took pride in taking care of all who she came to know over these many years. As a volunteer she gave her time and talents to The Kalamazoo Art League, The Kalamazoo Symphony League, CASA, Family & Children’s Services, and numerous high school committees. As empty nesters Libby and Peter traveled the globe, visiting the British Isles, Europe, Australia, Hawaii, Guatemala, Bermuda, the Caribbean, and to numerous states in the US. Libby was a wonderful cook and loved to entertain friends and dear family any chance she could get. Libby and Peter built a wonderful partnership during their nearly sixty years of marriage.

Libby is preceded in death by her parents Frank and Virginia, her in-laws Edward and Janet Seaver, her son Eddie, her brother-in-law Biff Jenney, niece Jessica G. Stout, brother Frank and sister-in- law Marlene Stout. She leaves behind her Husband Peter, Daughter Kerry (Joe) Block, sisters Kathleen Jenney and Virginia Burau, sister-in-law Joanie Seaver King, nephews Robert Jenney and Michael Stout, grand-nephew Mikey Stout and grandniece Olivia Stout.

Please join us at a Life Story Visitation on Wednesday April 15 from 5 – 7 PM at Betzler Life Story Funeral Homes, 6080 Stadium Drive, Kalamazoo (269) 375-2900. Mass will be celebrated on Thursday April 16 at 11 AM at St. Thomas More Catholic Parish. A luncheon will follow upstairs at the church. Burial after the luncheon at Hope Cemetery at 2 PM.
