Life Story / Obituary
The world feels a little emptier today as we mourn the loss of Kevin (“KP”) Park (46) of Kalamazoo, MI, who passed away peacefully on October 1, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer. He leaves behind a legacy of undeniable devotion to his family, cherished friendships, and a lifelong passion for the creative arts.
Kevin entered the world on February 3, 1980, in a year already buzzing with creative energy and pop‑culture milestones as the world was introduced to iconic creative works like The Empire Strikes Back, Call Me (Blondie), and the arcade game Pac‑Man, milestones that helped define the vibrant, artistic landscape of the 1980s and a fitting beginning for someone whose life would be influenced by artistic expression.
From an early age, Kevin’s innate creativity was unmistakable. He loved plays, movies, board games, music, and spending time with people from all walks of life. His natural humor and easygoing nature made him someone others gravitated toward, forming friendships that lasted decades. During his high school years, he immersed himself in the AV club, theatre, creative writing, and Renaissance Festivals, early signs of the imaginative spirit that would shape the remainder of his life.
After graduating from Portage Northern High School, Kevin began his professional journey with Stryker Instruments. While building his career, he also deepened his love for local theatre, becoming active in several community groups, including Kalamazoo Whole Art Theatre. It was during a readers‑theatre production of Fahrenheit 451 that a “showmance” sparked between Kevin and his future bride, Roni Thebo. Their connection grew both onstage and off, leading them to collaborate in numerous productions with Whole Art, Battle Creek Civic, and Vicksburg Community Players. One of Kevin’s fondest roles in his 20s was portraying 80‑year‑old Mr. Green in Battle Creek’s production of Visiting Mr. Green, a performance that showcased his incredible acting talent. On August 12, 2006, Kevin and Roni joyfully joined their lives in marriage.
Kevin’s warmth and natural ease with people, especially children, became even more evident as he stepped into family life. Babies were instantly drawn to him, soothed by his gentle presence and playful spirit. A devoted nurturer, he embraced fatherhood wholeheartedly, leaving his position at Stryker to take on the most important role of his life: stay‑at‑home dad to twins (Isaac and Aurelia) and loving co-parent to Joshua and Madison. Once the twins began kindergarten, Kevin returned to the workforce as a city mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. He delighted in meeting residents across the city and formed many close friendships at the post office, often brightening someone’s day with a perfectly timed movie quote or joke. His kindness was effortless and constant, and he instilled in his family the importance of acceptance, compassion, and loving others well.
Balancing work and family, Kevin continued to nurture dreams of being a writer, filmmaker, and producer. He felt most at home in his creative element, especially when writing scripts. His full and short films were extensions of his thoughts and imagination, brought to life through collaboration, a process he cherished. His love of reading and music enriched his storytelling, with favorite authors like Hunter S. Thompson and Kurt Vonnegut and films by Stanley Kubrick shaping his artistic lens. He adored films such as Dr. Strangelove, The Producers, and The Court Jester. In his final days, Kevin continued creating. In his last week, he filmed a heartfelt farewell and invited loved ones to ask him any question they wished. The result was a precious exchange of filmed conversations, essentially building his own documentary.
Over the years, Kevin developed a love for travel. He enjoyed exploring new places, visiting art museums, and eating local food. His most memorable trips included Scotland, both coasts of the United States, and most recently, a week in New York City.Kevin lived his life to the fullest and was always ready for the next adventure. He embraced the philosophy that tomorrow isn’t promised, so enjoy today. His loyal friendship, selfless compassion, and unconditional love will be deeply missed. May his loved ones never doubt the love he held for them, and may they always feel his presence whenever they gather, knowing he is surely there, reminding them through his favorite Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy quote, “Don’t Panic.”
He was preceded in death by his daughter: Aurelia Park; father: Stephen Park; in‑laws: Ronald and Julie Thebo; mothers‑in‑law: Susan Jenquin and Mary Clark; aunt and uncle: David and Wendy Park; grandparents: James and Melba Park; and his beloved dog, Kronk.
Surviving are his wife of 20 years, Roni Thebo‑Park; children: Isaac (Grace Zantjer) Park, Madison (Jason Lindsey) McAllister, Joshua McAllister, and McKenna Lamp; mother: Betty Jo Park; sibling: Jennifer Park; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, countless loving family and friends, and his cherished dog, Mabel.
