Life Story / Obituary

Kent W. Brigham was born on July 4, 1938, to Julian Wesley Brigham and Esther Florence (Barhyte), in Buffalo, New York. He passed away on January 7, 2026, in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Kent had a lifelong love of bowhunting that remained a constant passion throughout his life. He held multiple records in the Pope and Young Club for moose, caribou, white-tail deer, antelope, and black bear—achievements he took immense pride in. He was also heavily involved with the Compton Traditional Bowhunters organization.

He retired from Western Michigan University, where he was an interior designer for the Campus Planning Department. He was a founding member of the Association of University Interior Designers. A man of remarkable creativity and vision that never stopped, he designed and re-designed his homes and took on several projects for himself and others. His ability to bring ideas to life made him a sought-after designer for meaningful projects within his community.

Kent’s many contributions to the Unity Church of Kalamazoo were especially significant. He designed several projects for them, including their sanctuary, some of the pieces featured doves – a powerful symbol of peace, and created a labyrinth for all to enjoy on the Church grounds.

Kent was preceded in death by his parents. His legacy lives on through his beloved wife: Jane; children: Glen (Jonna) Brigham and Kelly Lynk (Ken). He also embraced his role as a stepfather to Chris (Nicole) Simpson and Erik (Denise) Simpson; grandchildren: Katie (Donny) Piper, Justin Lynk, Caroline (Lucas) Estanislau, Jessica Lynk, Scott Brigham, Jillian Lynk, Ben, Drew, Gage, Jason, Ethan, Jack, and Holland. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren Akayla, Alexis, Kaylin, Saniyah, Ariana, Crista, DJ; and several extended family members and friends.

His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were blessed spending time with him; playing board games, billiards, archery, and endless story telling…there was always an adventure with Grandpa.

Kent was always someone who saw the beauty in nature and design. May the memories he created not be forgotten.
