Life Story / Obituary

Print

Jasmine Ebony Watkins-Maze was an amazing young lady who touched the lives of so many people. She deeply cared for those that she loved and had a carefree and positive attitude toward all of the struggles and curve balls that life delivers. Though she is no longer with us in a physical sense, her memory will live on within the hearts, minds, and souls of her family and friends.

Her life began on November 15, 1992, the daughter of Kristen Elizabeth Maze and Charles Watkins. She was a sweet baby who had a touch of colic but outgrew that and was soon sleeping through the night, loving her naps. From an early age she showed signs of her natural ability as an artist, and she also fell in love with animals at a young age. All through her life she could relate better to animals than people and her childhood home quickly became a home for all kinds of creatures including bunnies, cats, and dogs. Animals seemed to bond to her too and she was sort of a Dr. Doolittle in the neighborhood. As a child she enjoyed riding horses, brats dolls, and any kind of adventure she and her brother, Trenton, could create.

Jasmine attended Paw Paw Elementary Schools, Hillside Middle School, and later earned her high school diploma in 2011 from Portage Community High School. She also attended Empire Beauty School, not necessarily to become a beautician, but to enhance her skills for her own appearance. Throughout her life she had a flare with her appearance and always desired her make up and style to be flamboyant and all her own.

With a great attitude about life, Jasmine took each day in stride. She didn’t let things get her down and when circumstances troubled her, she would soon forget about it and move on. Each day was a new day and yesterday didn’t matter. She loved to laugh, joke, and walk to the beat of her own drum. Jasmine had a profound respect for nature and Mother Earth and, though she was not a religious person, she was deeply spiritual. She was loved by many and will be missed by more. Her untimely passing on September 24, 2021 due to a tragic car accident has left behind her mother, Kristen Elizabeth Maze; her father, Charles Dwayne Watkins; and her children: Jeremiah Jay Maze, Julius Guisepe Maze, and Kori Ivory Jackson. Other members of her family include her siblings: Trenton Boulding, Jaiden Jankord-Maze, Tashia, Chad, Chase, Burgandy, Christopher, Chandler Watkins, Evan, and Kory Gardner; her grandparents: Anna Maze, and Carol and Tommy Watkins; and her significant other, Isiah Shaqur Jackson. She was preceded in death by her grandfather Richard Allen Maze.

A private a family viewing and cremation will take place. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at Victory Baptist Church, 308 W. Milham Ave., Portage. A post service gathering will be announced. Visit Jasmine’s webpage at BetzlerLifeStory.com to archive favorite memories, photos, and sign her guestbook.
