Greg’s story began in Stevensville, where he spent his early years growing up alongside his brother, Bryan. Their family moved often for their father’s career, but eventually returned to Kalamazoo—the place that truly became home. Their dad worked as a bank vice president, and their mom devoted herself to raising the boys and volunteering in the community.

Greg graduated from Lakeshore High School in 1978. He played football, loved cars back when they were really something to show off, and carried that easygoing confidence into adulthood. Construction became his lifelong profession, and it was during his years working in Houston that he met his first wife and welcomed his son, Aaron.

Some of Greg’s happiest memories were made during summer vacations out west, exploring landmarks like the Grand Canyon and Mount Rushmore. Even more special were the trips to his grandparents’ cabin on the Manistee River near Kalkaska. He cherished those summers spent with his grandmother—quiet days, simple joys, and the kind of time that stays with you forever.

Greg had a naturally friendly way about him. He tried to be funny—sometimes succeeding, sometimes not—but people were drawn to him all the same. He and Bryan shared a love of creating things, and together they spent years participating in craft shows. Greg proudly offered his handmade shelves, coat hangers, and wooden figurines, each piece shaped with patience and care.

Even after suffering a catastrophic injury in construction, Greg continued to look for the good in life and in people. Hardship never dimmed his spirit. He loved life—fully, stubbornly, and with a resilience that inspired those around him.

Bryan will miss his brother’s presence, his companionship, and the steady comfort of simply having him nearby. Greg’s life was not easy, but he embraced it with gratitude and heart. And that love—for family, for simple pleasures, for the world around him—is the legacy he leaves behind.
