Gary Hamilton

Gary Hamilton of Portage, age 74, died on December 6, 2025. He was born on March 16, 1951, in Fort Worth, Texas to Elmer and Norma Jean (Elliot) Hamilton. Gary always had a smile on his face, and a kind heart. Though he faced many challenges, he always kept his wonderful sense of humor through it all. His kind heart led him to meet the woman he would spend his life with, Gwendolyn Smith. They met through a mutual friend while attending the local county fair. Gwen was immediately attracted to his great sense of humor, and from that day on, they were inseparable. The two later married in Las Vegas. Throughout their marriage they loved travelling together. Their travels took them to many beautiful places such as Argentina, where they adored the people, the stunning architecture, the dancing, and several trips to Mexico as well. One notable trip was to Antarctica where, while very chilly, they got to see great wildlife such as the plethora of penguins. He had a vast love for astronomy, could name all the constellations, and was eager to share his knowledge! He could be found lying on his back in his driveway, often catching the neighbors off guard, admiring the stars. All who knew Gary can agree that he was a genuinely kind man who lived to laugh. Even while he was struggling with his health, he’d always find reasons to laugh and joke. He will be dearly missed by all those who were lucky enough to have met him.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Harvey Eugene Hamilton. Surviving is his wife, Gwendolyn, and nieces and nephews.
