Douglas Alan Golike, age 70, died Tuesday, August 2, 2022 when his airplane crashed shortly after taking off from the airport in South Haven, Michigan.

Douglas (Doug) was born on June 15th, 1952 to Robert and Marilae Golike in Elmhurst, Il. Doug spent his early childhood in the Central African Republic where his parents served as missionaries with Baptist Mid-Missions. After graduating from High School in Wheaton, Il he attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Il, then graduated from the Moody Aviation school in Elizabethton, TN as an aircraft pilot and mechanic beginning a lifelong love of and involvement in aviation.

On January 30, 1982, Doug and Irene Schneider were married in Paw Paw, Mi. From 1983 to 1998 they served with Baptist Mid-Missions alongside Doug’s parents in the Central African Republic where Doug flew a Cessna 185 and Irene was his faithful radio tracker. After leaving Africa they settled in southwest Michigan where he continued to work as an aircraft mechanic and enjoyed taking family members and friends flying in his personal aircraft.

He is survived by his wife Irene Golike, Lawton, MI; brother Timothy (Sue) Golike, Anchorage, AK; brother Richard (Marianne) Golike, Woodburn, IL; sister Majorie (David) Sandgren, Ocala, FL; brother Marc (Jody) Golike, Jerseyville, IL; sister Marcia (Scott) Davis, Walworth, WI; and 24 nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Michigan and Illinois.
