Life Story / Obituary
Daniel Murray of Lawton, age 61, died on March 19, 2026. Dan was born April 28, 1964 in Detroit, MI, to John and Patricia Murray. Dan lived a life rooted in family, friends, and the simple joy of bringing people together—most often through food. A talented and dedicated chef, he worked for the Beacon Club and later for Stryker, where he earned a reputation for his skill, creativity, and instinct in the kitchen. French-trained and deeply intuitive, Dan could tell how well something was cooked just by catching its aroma from another room. He took pride in crafting his own recipes and perfecting sauces, but what he loved most was cooking for others.
At home, Dan’s meals became cherished traditions. His BBQ chicken, ribs, and chicken alfredo—the first meal he ever prepared for his wife, Laura—were family favorites. He was always experimenting with smokers, marinades, and new techniques, often using fresh herbs and vegetables from his own garden.
Dan also loved the outdoors and shared that love with his children through skiing, patiently teaching them and creating lasting memories on the slopes.
It was while working at the Big T Restaurant that Dan met the love of his life, Laura. Together they built a life centered on family, laughter, and being present for the moments that mattered most. Dan valued time with his family above all else, and his steady presence will be deeply missed.
Music was another constant in Dan’s life. He loved attending concerts—especially seeing Alice Cooper—and enjoyed the sounds of the 1970s, including favorites like Billy Joel and Chicago. He could often be found sitting for hours listening to music on Spotify or revisiting his collection of old records.
More than anything, Dan will be remembered for his generosity, his warmth, and the way he brought people together. His family will miss his incredible cooking, his stories, and simply having him near.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kathy Ferguson; and brother, Sean Murray. Surviving are his wife, Laura; children: Daniel Murray Jr. and Elizabeth (Justin) Wood; grandchildren: Edward and Scarlett; siblings: Mary Hensley and James (Katie) Murray; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 28, at 2 PM at Big T Restaurant in Lawton.
