Our most cherished memories of Christopher were watching him grow into a sensitive, compassionate, and ethical man. Chris’s world-view was that everyone had a right to joy and happiness. As a father, he gave the best of himself to give his children their best childhood.

From their Julie Drive house, Chris walked his children to school. Those times were nirvana for him. He always woke-up in the morning to the thrill of spending another day with his children. This was his life! He took the commitment of fatherhood to a level that can only be described as exemplary and virtuous.

Chris was impressive in other ways. He was intelligent, principled and funny. He had a mind that was constantly at full-throttle. His mind had infinite vaults for information and facts – and he retained everything. If you played ‘Trivial Pursuit’ with him – well, you knew the outcome.

He played sports such as soccer, basketball, and hockey. We called him ‘Champ’ after his men’s team won the league championship. Winning was important to Chris, but it was subordinated to ‘how you played the game’. He valued ‘fair play’ in all aspects of his life and he gave it to everyone, sometimes not reciprocated. Yes, he was naïve, trusting and idealistic. These were, and remain, his most endearing traits.

Good-Bye ‘Champ’. Without you, our lives and futures are greatly diminished.

Love, Mom and Dad

As we face the future in the absence of the wonderful man we were so blessed to have in our lives, may we find much comfort in knowing that Chris is at peace. May we also find comfort in the honor of carrying his legacy of curiosity, compassion, generosity, and loving connection forward. In each moment we lead with our hearts, cherish time with our families, sincerely listen to people's stories, choose compassion for ourselves and each other, allow young people to share their interests and influence us, and enjoy our favorite things with our favorite people, we keep Chris' memory alive and inspiring goodness in our lives.

Family includes children: Lydia Ann and Gordon Fidrych; parents, Charles Sr. and Helen Marschke; siblings: Charles (Janet) Marschke Jr., Lisa (Joe) Thomas, Dave (Danielle) Marschke and Angela Marschke; mother of his children, Catherine Marschke and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
