In Loving Memory of Charlotte Huston
Charlotte Huston was a lifelong horsewoman and animal lover who grew up in Michigan. From an early age, her connection with horses shaped her life and inspired those around her.
Charlotte carried her love of riding throughout her life, becoming an accomplished rider and trainer. She eventually moved to Florida with her husband Richard and enjoyed a successful career as a racehorse trainer and an Endurance and Competitive rider across Florida and the Southeastern United States. Her dedication extended beyond the stables, as she pursued a career in nursing after graduating from Nazareth Nursing School. She served as a labor and delivery nurse at Borgess Hospital, Allegan General Hospital, and Brooksville General Hospital in Florida. Charlotte also inspired young riders as a longtime and caring 4-H leader, including her three children. Those who knew her best imagine her now, riding her beloved horses, pain-free, across endless pastures and trails.
Charlotte passed away after a very brief illness at the age of 89 on March 14, 2026, just one day after her 89th birthday. She was born in Long Island, New York, to John and Mary Louise Heuser.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard G. Huston; her parents; Richard’s parents and sister; and her sister-in-law, Shirley Heuser.
She is survived by her children, Valerie (Cal) Gallagher, Wendell (Vita) Huston, and Barry (Allie) Huston; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her brother, John “Jack” Heuser; many nieces and nephews; and her dear Florida friends Laurie McCluggage, Pam from the feed store, Randy Somers, and many others.
Cremation has taken place. You can celebrate Charlotte’s life online by sharing your favorite stories and photos on her dedicated webpage at BetzlerLifeStory.com. Memorial contributions may be made to your local animal adoption agency.
