Life Story / Obituary
When reflecting on the life and legacy of Brenda Bunch, it is easy to see that she was truly a blessing in the lives of all who knew her. A shining example of kindness and compassion, she was always willing to go above and beyond to care for those around her. Nothing made Brenda happier than holding her friends and family close. Her servant’s heart allowed her to impact the lives of countless others in more ways than she could imagine, and she modeled what it meant to follow faithfully after the Lord she loved so much. Deeply loved, Brenda will be forever missed, and her memory will be carried on.
The early 1950s were among some of the most influential years for the United States of America. The economy was flourishing following the end of WWII just a few years before, and the historical baby boom was underway. Rock and roll was taking the world by storm, and popular TV shows such as “I Love Lucy” were rapidly becoming more and more popular. During this exciting time, Noble and Marium Bridges of Talladega, Alabama, were awaiting the birth of twins with breathless anticipation. On April 6, 1953, they were happy to announce the arrival of their daughters, Brenda and Linda.
The Bridges family moved to Chicago, Illinois, when Brenda was young, so she spent much of her childhood growing up on the North side of the city. She was raised in the bustling family home alongside her eleven siblings, Linda, Martha Ann, Tommy, Connie, Gary, Michael, Jimmy, Tony, Sharon, David, and Daniel. Brenda’s father was a furniture mover while her mother was a factory worker. As a girl, Brenda did what she could to help her family thrive. She would often watch her younger siblings and left school early to help out full-time.
It wasn’t long before Brenda met the man who would forever hold the key to her heart. His name was Bill Bunch, and after meeting on June 3, 1970, the two fell deeply in love. With a desire to spend the rest of their lives together, Brenda and Bill were married on August 14th of that same year. She was overjoyed to become a mother to her three beloved children, Terry, Ronnie, and William. Brenda thrived in her role as a mom, and she liked that her three boys kept her busy. She was a caring and gentle parent, and she was a great cook and always made sure her sons were well fed. As some of Brenda’s siblings moved to Paw Paw, Brenda and Bill eventually made the trek to Michigan and joined them. Eventually her boys would find their way to Paw Paw too. Later on, Brenda was thrilled to watch her family grow to include 11 grandchildren and even 14 great-grandchildren. She adored her grandkids and doted on them whenever she could. Holidays were spent with family. Brenda considered herself fortunate to be surrounded by so many loved ones.
A gracious host, Brenda enjoyed welcoming people into her home. She cared for her sons’ friends as if they were her own. Anyone who came to Brenda’s knew they were going to eat some amazing food. She loved cooking, especially Southern food like fried chicken and biscuits and gravy, and she passed her fine Southern cooking down to her children and grandchildren. Brenda’s home in Paw Paw was her favorite place to be, and as a warm and hospitable woman, she greeted everyone with open arms. She always made sure her friends and family knew just how much they were loved.
There were many hobbies that kept Brenda busy in her free time. She loved having fun and experiencing all the joys life had to offer. Brenda liked listening to music of all kinds, including country music, Motown music, and the oldies. She always had music playing in her home. Brenda enjoyed watching game shows on TV as well. Over the years, she traveled to California, Arizona, Alabama, and Tennessee, usually to visit family. Though her health began to decline, Brenda never let it slow her down. She continued to care for her friends and family and pursue the things she loved in life. Brenda leaned on her unwavering faith in good times and bad, and she always said that she knew where she was going. She was forgiving, generous, and a true servant to all those around her.
All who knew Brenda Bunch will certainly agree that she made the most of every moment, never taking a single blessing for granted. She was a constant source of strength, no matter the circumstances, and she faced every challenge with a fierce spirit of determination. A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Brenda always held her loved ones close. Her beauty radiated from within, and to know her was to love her and to always be unconditionally loved. Although she will be greatly missed, Brenda leaves behind a priceless collection of memories that her friends and family will forever keep near and dear to their hearts.
