With a warm, welcoming smile, Beth Hanson lived a whole-hearted life, rich in family and friends. Loving, generous, and kind, Beth embraced every moment and person as a gift. She radiated hope and faith in the goodness of others, possessed a keen eye for detail, and was very smart. Her passion, creativity, and commitment inspired all who were blessed to know her. Always a source of comfort and support, she naturally recognized what people needed and provided it to them. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, nurse, and friend, Beth was treasured by many and will long live in the hearts of those she so deeply loved.

The Gove family’s first child, Beth was born May 19, 1953. Growing up in Parchment, Beth enjoyed a typical childhood of the times. Her father was a doctor, and her mother tended to the home and children. Along with her three younger brothers, Beth attended Parchment Public Schools, participated in Girl Scouts, and was a part of the Choralair. She graduated from Parchment High School in 1971 and furthered her education at Michigan State University’s nursing school. Beth enjoyed being a pediatric nurse and, while living in California, was one of the first to help care for people with AIDS.

Beth met her husband Jim Hanson while in high school. After many years of dating, while at an arcade, she asked him to marry her. The couple happily married on October 4, 1980, in Kalamazoo. In 1987, Beth and Jim welcomed their son Erik into the world. Erik thrived in her care and they shared many memorable times singing in the car together and reading when he was young. As Erik grew into adulthood, fell in love, married, and had children, Beth’s joy grew. She adored her grandsons Simon and Levi.

She eventually returned to her studies at the University of Michigan to become a midwife. During this, she established great friendships, in particular with Ruth and Mary. Extremely intelligent and an excellent planner, Beth became very instrumental in helping Jim’s business, Marketing Technology Service, grow. She was a major force of her own in the non-woven industry, sharing her talents as the editor of the industry magazine, giving speeches, and helping set up international conferences. Her background in medicine gave her the insight to help design exceptionally well-made diapers for both children and adults.

Beth was also involved in her church community. She led a youth group for many years and was active at Freshwater Church. She loved to travel, and her favorite places were Sorento, Italy, and her recently built dream home on Cedar Lake in Lawton. Beth took up painting in the last few years. Whether sharing her faith, matching people with canine companions, painting the beauty she saw, or listening with love and care, Beth made the world a better place.

In the face of being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in February of 2022, Beth responded with signature positivity, faith, and confidence in living every moment to the fullest. A powerful role model for how to live a happy, heart-centered life of service, Beth touched, moved, and inspired everyone. Whether she spent a moment or a lifetime with someone, they were left feeling loved, valued, and supported. It is this legacy that will live on in the hearts and lives of all who shared the gift of Beth’s life.
