Life Story / Obituary
Kind-hearted and upbeat, Angela Allen was a woman whom others instinctively liked and trusted. She was a devoted wife and mother, who always put the needs of her family before her own. She gave her family the greatest gift anyone can give – unconditional love and support – and was never happier than when caring for those she loved. Angela’s generous spirit, contagious laugh, and true concern for others will live on in the hearts and memories of all those whose lives she touched.
Angela was born on September 24, 1963, the second child of proud parents Kenneth and Mary-Jane (Davis) Cunningham. She grew up in Toledo, Ohio, where she attended Notre Dame Catholic Girls School. Angela was a talented athlete, and ran track and played softball on the school teams.
After graduating from high school in 1981, Angela renewed an old friendship with a young man named Robert Allen. Angela and Robert had met in junior high, dating off and on throughout their high school years. The young couple’s friendship gradually deepened into love, and they were married on September 23, 1989. Robert was in the Navy at the time, and the wedding ceremony took place in California.
In the years to come, Angela and Robert were blessed with three children: Paul, Mike, and Kelsey. Angela loved being a mother – the most memorable days of her life were the births of her three children (she was also very excited to have a girl after two boys!). Devoted and supportive, Angela made many sacrifices in order to give her kids everything they needed and more. She herself had a warm and giving personality, and as a result the Allen home was always warm and welcoming (as well as spotless – Angela was an admitted “neat freak”).
When the kids were young, Angela enjoyed doing arts and crafts projects with them. As they grew older and started playing sports, happy summers were filled with baseball and softball practices and games. It was sometimes complicated coordinating everyone’s schedules, but Angela and Robert both loved cheering on their kids at the ballpark on the weekends.
At home, Angela enjoyed baking, and the house was often filled with delectable aromas. She also loved the holiday seasons, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas, and made the day memorable for everyone with beautiful decorations and delicious food.
Angela was diagnosed with Alpha 1, a lung disease, in October of 2011. She showed great courage and strength of character in the following months as she battled with the disease. In and out of the hospital, Angela greatest joy in the past year was to be at home, surrounded by her beloved family.
Generous, kind, and warm-hearted, Angela was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a loyal friend. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her many friends and family members.
Angela Allen died on November 7, 2012, at the age of 49. Angela’s family includes her husband, Robert; her children, Paul, Mike and Kelsey; her parents, Kenneth and Mary-Jane Cunningham; her sister, Colleen (Brian) Cannell; several brother and sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
Services for Angela will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Life Story Funeral Home, Betzler-Thompson, 60900 M-40, (657- 3870), and the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Please visit Angela’s personal memory page at www.lifestorynet.com, where you can learn more about her life, share a favorite memory or photo, and sign the online guestbook. Memorial Contributions may be directed to the Alpha -1 Association.
