Mary Rooney

Age 96, Mary Louise Rooney passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2022. She was born in 1926, the daughter of the late Glenn and Louisa (Graham) Rooney. She was preceded in death by her sister Patricia Rooney. Mary graduated from State High School and Western Michigan University with a degree in Occupational Therapy. Her love of our country prompted her to enter the United States Navy as an Ensign in the Medical Service Corps. She eventually reached the rank of Commander. She loved working with all service personnel, especially the Vietnam War casualties and her teaching position on the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. She was a past member of the American Occupational Therapy Association, Military Officers Association, Saint Augustine Cathedral, and the Navy League. Mary had an extended family and many valued friendships throughout her life and was very grateful for those relationships. For the last 2 years she was a resident in Meilland Square at Heritage Community where she was appreciative of the excellent care and kind staff. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday (SEPT 1) 10 AM at St. Augustine Cathedral, 542 West Michigan Ave. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
