Linda Hurley was a special person to know and love. A fond lover of all people, she was most content at her work surrounded by her co-workers whom she considered her family. With a large sweet tooth, it was no surprise that she often had homemade treats including her delicious lemon bars ready to share at her desk with others. Linda was the most thoughtful and genuine person to call a friend. She was known to never miss a special birthday or holiday without sending out her warmest wishes in a card with a personal message. Her greatest happiness was making each and everyone she met feel loved. Linda will be deeply missed and her rich memories and warm personality will be lovingly remembered for many years.

The 1940’s were characterized by WWII. Through the courage and dedication of those who fought, they spent much of this decade in a battle for a way of life that the country and western powers had spent two centuries building. By 1947, some of the most significant inventions that would impact lives for many years to come were created including the Transistor and the Mobile Phone. That same year, Linda was born on December 2, 1947, in Kalamazoo, Michigan and adopted to her endearing parents, Edwin and Grace (Beckermeyer) Hurley. She was a joyful addition to their happy marriage and loving home.

Raised primarily on the east side before moving to Parchment as a young girl, Linda lived a typical childhood of the times. With a police officer for a father and a homemaker for a mother, it was no surprise that Linda was raised with strict rules of her overprotective parents. Linda’s younger years were filled with camping trips, Orange pop, and the love of each and every person who was close to her father. Linda was forever the apple of his eye! Graduating with the Class of 1966 from Parchment High School, she was considered a bright student who was mostly quiet and unassuming. With a strong desire to serve others, Linda saw it natural to enroll herself in nursing classes while also starting work at Borgess Hospital. She quickly grew to love her new role as a clerical worker and eventually discontinued taking classes working her way into a long-term career.

Linda was never one to remain idle. After her retirement from Borgess, she followed her good friend and former boss and worked at Borgess Pipp for several more years contributing to a span of forty remarkable years in the hospital setting! As a fellow co-worker, she often helped cover shifts and support the staff in any way they needed. Linda had a special way of making others feel good about themselves and aimed to make each and every person’s day brighter through her caring and thoughtful ways. There simply wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for her working family!

A woman of simple pleasures, Linda also held many special interests. She was most definitely a cat lover and had owned many cats throughout her lifetime. She loved photography and had countless albums of her cat pictures from over the years. Reading was her most favorite pastime. She read nearly even Jan Karon romance novel as soon as they hit the bookshelves at the local library! Linda enjoyed listening to country music and watching television. She mostly tuned into QVC and cooking shows although she rarely cooked, but loved to eat! Linda never turned down an invitation to go out to eat and try new places. In fact, in the company of good friends, she’d go just about anywhere to savor good conversation and laughter! If she had her choice, however, she’d easily settle for a bite of steaming hot pizza and a cold pop! Linda also enjoyed traveling extensively with her close cousin, Jan Beckermeyer to many popular places throughout the US including Nashville, Hawaii, New York, and Vegas!

As delightful and easy-going as she was, Linda’s life did not go without its fair share of trials. She was victorious in her battle against cancer, yet her good friend, Jan who was diagnosed at the same time, died shortly after. Linda was deeply saddened by this loss. The last few years Linda struggled with heart issues which significantly slowed her down. Described as caring, selfless, and generous, Linda’s life of modeling abundant kindness towards others was her greatest legacy. Each and every life she touched was richly blessed. May each life honor Linda’s warm spirit by spreading her deep compassion for people throughout the world for generations to come.
