Life Story / Obituary

Jack Albert Post was born December 5, 1933 to Albert (Allt) and Evelyn (Frame) Post. Jack was a native of Kalamazoo and the eldest of three sons. In 1945, Jack was drafted for service during the Korean War where he proudly served as Airman Third Class in the United States Air Force. Following his honorable discharge, Jack remained in S. Hadley, Massachusetts where he was stationed for several years.

Upon his return to southwest Michigan, Jack became employed at Gipson Guitar helping to make some of the world’s finest instruments. Later, he delivered flowers for Flipse Flower Shop and VanderSalm’s Flower Shop. Jack passionately said, “People loved to see me come, because I was always carrying beautiful flowers for them!“

Jack was proud member of the American Legion Post 37, where he also served as Chaplain. He was a man of faith in Jesus Christ. He spent many years building floats for community parades, and took great pleasure seeing the joy on peoples’ faces as they admired the artistry. And, if that were not enough, Jack was the zealous Master of Ceremony for Senior Services’ Prime Time Players of Kalamazoo.

An entertainer by nature, and with his sociable personality, Jack never failed to bring a smile to people’s faces. Whether sharing a joke, a fun conversation, singing, or acting out one of his many signature impersonations, Jack drew everyone closer and made their day just a bit brighter. He’d randomly break out in song if he heard a tune he liked, especially Frank Sinatra. The originator of the phrase “live, laugh, and love” probably had Jack in mind because his favorite pastime was exactly that, and enjoying his cats!

Jack was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Post, and his parents. Jack leaves many to celebrate and cherish memories they shared with him. Among these are his brother, Garrett (Patricia) Post; nieces and nephews: Rhonda (Larry) Elliott, Dawn Post-Rogers, Brad Post, Brent (Rhonda) Post, and Amber Herman; great-nieces and great-nephews: Daniel Elliott, Natasha Elliott, Cody (Rhea) White, Skyler Rogers, Rachelle Post, Katelynn Post, Morgan Post, Wesley Post, Michael Herman, and Shane Herman; 1 great-great-niece, Ava; 1 great-great-nephew, Finn; and several cousins. Special thanks to the many friends, neighbors and staff of Veteran’s H.O.P.E. Adult Foster Care, Opus Internal Medicine, Paragon Home Health Care and Senior Services.

Services will be held at 12 noon on Monday April 19 at Betzler Life Story Funeral Home, 6080 Stadium Drive, Kalamazoo 269-375-2900. Burial with military honors at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
