Life Story / Obituary

Print

Age 88 died peacefully on June 1, 2019. George was born March 2, 1931 in Pottsville, PA, the only son of George and Mary (Reiter) Beyerle. A graduate of Penn State University, and a lifelong fan of Penn State football, he enjoyed a career of more than 25 years working for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources as a Fisheries Research Biologist. This was perfect for George as he was a lifelong fisherman, fishing all over the United States and the world. He was also a cryptologist while serving in the U.S. Army and a railroad enthusiast. In fact, he’d often sit by the railroad tracks waiting for special trains to come through. He even tracked the model and engine numbers of many locomotives of the years. Surviving are his loving wife, Julia, “Judy”; and 2 brothers-in-law, Walter (Judith) Zischke and Lester Zischke. Visit with family and friends while sharing food and refreshments from 11-1 PM on Sunday (June 9) at Betzler Life Story Funeral Home, 6080 Stadium Dr. Kalamazoo (269) 375-2900. Burial with military honors will take place at 10 AM on Monday (June 10) at Almena Township Cemetery. Please visit George’s personal web page at www.betzlerlifestory.com, where you may archive a favorite memory and sign his online guestbook before coming to the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Friendship Village for benefit of the Employee Appreciation Fund.
