Frank Fitchko of Kalamazoo, age 82, died on May 20, 2025. Frank was born May 6, 1943 in Cleveland, Ohio, to Frank and Sophie (Blaha) Fitchko. Frank lived a life full of purpose, humor, and heart. While at Adrian College, he met the love of his life, Nikki. At Adrian College, he played football and tennis and served as president of Phi Kappa Alpha. He later earned his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.

Frank dedicated 37 years as a guidance counselor for Utica Schools and also worked at Eisenhower High School. He was a natural leader and advocated for educators as a skilled negotiator for the Michigan Education Association. Frank always inspired others through mentorship and a quick wit. He was a gifted communicator who helped people find their own answers—especially his children, Aaron and Darcy, both of whom credit him for their growth.

Frank never missed a moment—whether it was Darcy’s childhood soccer games or helping Aaron earn his Eagle Scout badge. He loved Michigan sports, golfing, fishing, gardening, playing cards, and fixing anything he could get his hands on. A lifelong learner, Frank was always full of advice, insight, and laughter. In his retirement years, he was a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity helping families secure a home and successful future. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched with his humor, wisdom, and unwavering love. As Frank always said, “The Best Is Yet to Come.”

He was preceded in death by his parents; and step-father, Thomas Loyan. Surviving are his wife, Nikki; children: Aaron (Shannon) Fitchko and Darcy (Scott) Schreiber; grandchildren: Sage, Aidan, Davis, Talya, and Brant; siblings: Ronald (Janet) Fitchko and Nancy Schuemann; and nephews: Jason, Justin, and Joshua; and niece, Lila.
