Life Story / Obituary

Print

Age 94, died on September 14, 2020. Etta was born June 20, 1926 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Albert and Edna (Dickinson) Bradeen. Etta’s life was forever changed after meeting the man who would become her husband. Walter saw her at Louie’s Trophy House, asked her on their first date, and the rest is a beautiful love story. Nothing brought more joy to Etta’s heart than spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren whom she helped raise. Though she was a wonderful influence on each of her grandkids, she was known to get into a bit of mischief from time to time with them. Etta was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and even helped with funeral celebrations there. In her spare time, a Tigers baseball game was probably on the TV or radio. She’d cheer on her favorites, Cecil Fielder and Miguel Cabrera!

Etta was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; daughter, Mary Kuras Carveth; grandson, Michael Kuras; and all but one sibling. Surviving are her children: Walt (Debbie) Kuras, Al (Sue) Kuras, Bob Kuras, and Ron (Sheila) Kuras; grandchildren: Jason, Chris, Jeremy, Angie, Lisa, Matthew, and Nathan; many great and great-great grandchildren; her sister: Barbara VanFulpen; and several nieces and nephews.

A private visitation will be held at the family’s invitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday (SEP 23) 11AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 936 Lake St, Kalamazoo with burial at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Visit Etta’s personal web page at www.BetzlerLifeStory.com where you may archive a favorite memory or photo and sign her online guestbook. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or St. Joseph Catholic Church. Arrangements by Betzler Life Story Funeral Home, 6080 Stadium Drive, Kalamazoo 269-375-2900.
