Charles Stephen "Steve" Garrett passed away on December 29, 2022 in Cincinnati, Ohio, at the age of 74. He was born on October 16, 1948, to Charles and Roselyn Garrett in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the oldest of three boys, John and Alex Garrett, and spent his entire childhood in the Kalamazoo and Saugatuck (Lake Michigan) areas. He graduated from University High School in Kalamazoo and the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. Upon graduation, he served as a Naval Officer aboard the aircraft carrier USS Roosevelt.

He was CEO and Chairman of the four-generation Garrett Insurance Agency in Kalamazoo, as well as a partner-owner of commercial buildings and owner of a fishing lure company, one of his many passions. He was an avid fisherman and sailor, served as Commodore of the Saugatuck Yacht Club, and his love of Lake Michigan was shared with his family. Moving to Cincinnati he pursued his lifelong love of cooking at Le Creuset.

He is survived by his three children, Paul Garrett of Dayton, Mark Garrett (and wife Wonnie) of Jersey City, and daughter Megan Garrett Tomsic (and husband Michael) of Charlotte. He was a grandfather to four boys, Nolan and Adrian Tomsic and Miles and Mason Garrett. He is also survived by his brother John Garrett of Chicago and former wife Christine Zink Garrett of Cincinnati. He was preceded in death by his brother Alexander.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Monica Church in Kalamazoo at 10:00 AM on May 26, 2023, and he will be interred in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, also in Kalamazoo.
